A polysomnogram is a diagnostic test we perform to diagnose various sleep disorders. This test assists in uncovering possible reasons for daytime fatigue and tiredness along with specific sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, periodic limb movements etc.
Upon arriving at the lab, you will be shown your room and asked to complete some paperwork. The technologist will explain the process every step of what they are doing. They will be attaching electrodes, respiratory belts and finger probe to record the electrical activity of the brain, eye movements, muscle activity, respiratory effort, air flow, heart rate and your oxygen levels. At this point, you will be asked to go to bed and while sleeping the technologist will be viewing and recording the data being collected. Throughout the night you will be monitored with video surveillance to correlate any findings with the data being collected and for patient safety.
In the morning, you will be woken up at six am and the technologist will remove the electrodes and respiratory belts, for you to return home.
